World Pediatric Project’s medical volunteers are the foundation of our network and our programs. Our medical volunteers are highly trained pediatric specialists committed to long-term program building, excellence in patient care, and collaboration with local health workers. All WPP medical volunteers are pediatric-trained and certified, and leaders in their respective fields and specialties. Prior to travel all WPP medical volunteers complete cultural competency training and collaborate very closely with in-country physician partners and medical support teams throughout the year.

Through their involvement with WPP programs and patients, our medical volunteers gain new skills and unique experience, which they bring back with them to their own US practices and hospitals, thus enriching the local healthcare capacity of the US communities where they live.

“WPP has been transformative for the VCU Health System. By participating in WPP missions, our doctors and nurses have become global leaders in specialty surgical cases.  The volunteer opportunities provided through WPP are also excellent for our employee and student recruitment and retention.”

– Dr. David Lanning, WPP medical volunteer and Co-Surgeon in Chief Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU
